Improvement in St Lucia’s Agriculture Sector

The Black Sigatoka banana disease has adversely affected the agriculture sector in St. Lucia.
The Agriculture Minister Moses Jn Baptiste informed the audience at the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure For 2013/2014, that the agricultural sectors in St Lucia has to date shown improvement with the exception of egg production.

The Minister then elaborated on the next phase of the country's Agriculture Transformation Programme:
“With the allocation of estimates we are going to do something new apart from re-organizing our Black Sigatoka Management Unit... We are going to ensure that we follow the advice of the scientists and we are going to ensure that we have a programme that is tailored to our situation in Saint Lucia because the fight against diseases like black Sigatoka sometimes is country specific.”

CTA Ardyis project - Agriculture Rural Development Youth ICT (Caribbean)




The CTA -  "Agriculture, Rural Development and Youth in the Information Society" (ARDYIS) project was established in order to raise youth awareness in the area of agricultural and rural development issues in ACP countries through ICTs. The project is also known to increase youth capacity.

The "CTA - ARDYIS" project description is as follows:
"ARDYIS initial activities include an essay contest, a web 2.0 training, animation of an information portal, facilitation of networking among project participants, participation in conferences for best participants. More than a project, ARDYIS is a framework of actions and will contribute to the promotion of opportunities for youth in ACP countries in the agricultural, rural development and ICT sectors."
